Born in 1970 in Yaroslavl (Russia), Vsevolod
Chmoulevitch completed
his composition and conducting studies in Saint-Petersburg State
Conservatory in 1994 (the class of prof. BORIS TISTCHENKO) and, in 1997,
the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon (the
class of GILBERT AMY). In 1992 he participated in the summer course
at the Conservatoire Americain de Fontainebleau. In 1997-98 he studied
with PHILIPPE MANOURY during the Académie Européenne du
festival d'Aix-en-Provence while also studying symphony conducting in
CNSMD de Paris.
Winner
of several International Composer's Competitions:
- The Xth International Composer's
Competition in Hitzacker (1992);
- Composition Competition during CHAIN-festival in Enscede (Holland,
1994);
- The AMSTERDAM EXCHANGES International Composers Competition (1998);
- International Composer's Competition of EOC DE LYON (1999);
- HENRY DUTILLEUX International Composer's Competition (1999);
- The QUATUOR MOLINARI International Composer's Competition (Montreal,
Canada, 2002).
Honored Mention in the all-Russian
Composer's Competition (1993).
Finalist of GAUDEAMUS Competition (1995 & 2001).
Founder and the conductor of
the "NEW MUSIC GROUP"
(ST PETERSBURG) ensemble. As a conductor he gives concerts with several
orchestras and contemporary music ensembles.
Received several grants and
scolarships: from the French Government, from the
Nadia et Lilli Boulanger Fondation, from the Académie Villecroze,
from the Fondation Pièrre Souvtchinsky. In 1996 he received the
Soros Fondation's grant in order to take part in the ART'S LINK Program
and to compose a piece for The CLEVELAND CHAMBER SYMPHONY.

opera (1997-1998);
- From the Oscar Back Foundation for the composition of a piece composed
during
XVII National Violin Competition (1999);
- From the the city of Châteauroux for one piece for chamber ensemble

- From the Académie Musicale de Villecroze for one piece for
chamber ensemble
(2001);
- From the Usedomer Festival for one piece for string orchestra (2001).
The music of Vsevolod Chmoulevitch is often played
during
international festivals, such as MUSIQUE EN SCÈNE, Festival lyrique
d'Aix-en Provence (France), GAUDEAMUS Music Week, 17-th National Violin
Competition OSKAR BACK, CHAIN (Holland), SOUND WAYS (Russia) etc...
It was played by ensembles Court-Circuit, Ensemble Inter-Instrumental
de Châteauroux, Ensemble Orchestral Contaimporain de Lyon, Clevelend
Chamber Symphony, Ensemble Novicento, DANEL Quartet, Musica da Camera
and by the soloist as MARIVONNE LE DIZÈS, DIMITRI VASSILIAKIS,
RIÉ HAMADA, HANNA SCHAER in many European countries and in the
USA.
